Some movies and television haven’t stood the test of time for me.
Laugh In and Animal House come to mind. Both of these were brilliantly written, and made me laugh until tears fell down my cheeks, but now all I can do is watch them with nostalgia.
But not Mel Brooks.
I can’t tell you how many times I have watched Blazing Saddles, and each time I am mesmerized by the timing of Gene Wilder when he says to Clevon Little:
What did you expect? ’Welcome sonny,’ ‘Make yourself at home,’ ‘Marry my daughter.’ You’ve got to remember, that these are just simple farmers, these are people of the land, the common clay of the new west. You know. . . morons
