Here We Go Again – Tom Waits For No Man
I’ve written before about my love affair/deep frustration with Tom Waits . He’s an incredible amount of work, but usually worth it.
Well this time Rolling Stone made me aware of a collaboration between Tom and Keith Richards. They have teamed up on a version of “Shenandoah” for the upcoming compilation ‘Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys’.
Once again I sat down to wade my way through the music of Tom Waits, but this time I had Keith there too. I poured my coffee, put my ear buds in, and took a deep breath.
It’s strangely drawing, and by that I mean these two well weathered and craggled rockers manage to bring you in to the moment. It’s not something I would put on my “Stuck On An Island” list, but I’m glad Rolling Stone choose this cut off the album to post. Tom is, as I have said before, like wading through mud and straw to get to the golden cookie. Hard work, but usually worth it. (unless you break your tooth on the gold)
So here’s to Tom and Keith, long may these pirates reign.
Well, Laura, I like your taste in men. Long may we reign. Toni
